Anchor: An American University professor did a magic trick in class last week. Barry Gordemer performed a trick with five metal rings. Danny Dubin reports from Washington, D.C.
Dubin: Barry Gordemer was a professional magician for 15 years before retiring to become a senior producer at NPR and now an AU writing professor. But he brought back his magic last Thursday with five metal rings. Gordemer handed the rings to his students to examine. One by one he passed the metal through each other, and linked all of the rings together. AU sophomore Kelsey Giordano says she was impressed by the trick.
Giordano says that she's a fan of Gordemer’s magic, and that she enjoys being a participant.
Gordemer says that he agrees with Giordano, and that the performance’s script is more important than the trick itself.
But some students say it WAS boring. AU student Brian Rhoades is an amateur magician, and he says that parts of the performance weren't impressive.
Rhoades says that he can even perform the trick BETTER than Gordemer. Both Rhoades and Gordemer say that the trick uses basic sleight of hand, and Gordemer says that the rings weren’t gimmicked.
